Structure, Rerrin, Co. Cork

Rerrin, a small village on Bere Island off the Beara Peninsula in County Cork, is home to a recorded structure that sits in something of an archival limbo.

It has been noted, catalogued, and assigned a monument record, yet the details that would tell us what it actually is, when it was built, and by whom, remain formally undocumented in any publicly accessible form. That gap is itself quietly telling. Bere Island has a layered past, from early monastic activity to extensive British military occupation that lasted well into the twentieth century, and a structure in Rerrin could belong to almost any chapter of that history.
