The building at Ballydaniel dates to 1778, placing its construction in a period when Catholic worship in Ireland was still conducted under significant legal and social constraint. Churches of this era were often modest, functional structures, built quickly and without great resources, and this one appears to have been no different.

The church is recorded as 'Tulla R.C. Chapel' on the first edition Ordnance Survey six-inch map, published in 1839, which suggests the building was still in use or at least still standing at that point. By the time of the 1946 to 1947 revision of those maps, however, it had been removed from the record entirely, indicating that the structure had either fallen out of use, been demolished, or simply ceased to register as a meaningful landmark. What makes the site quietly interesting is the gap between that cartographic disappearance and physical reality: when the site was visited in 1987, part of the east gable wall was still standing. Someone had even repointed that section of masonry in 1968, suggesting a degree of local attachment to the ruin long after it had officially ceased to exist. The church sits on the southern side of a valley, slightly above the valley floor, in what is now reclaimed grassland.
