That a site has been formally recorded at all tells us something: the area around Woodford, on the edge of the Slieve Aughty hills, has yielded evidence of human activity across many centuries, and individual monuments in such regions can range from ringforts, the circular enclosed farmsteads that dot the Irish countryside from the early medieval period, to holy wells, standing stones, or the remains of more recent rural industry.
