Ringforts, known in Irish as raths, were enclosed farmsteads typically built during the early medieval period, their circular banks of earth or stone marking the boundary of a family's living and farming space. At Cabragh, what survives on the western side of the road is a curving arc of an earth and stone bank, running from south to north, with a width of around 3.85 metres, an internal height of roughly 0.7 metres, and an external height of 1.45 metres. On the eastern side, nothing remains visible above ground.

The 1914 Ordnance Survey six-inch map recorded the rath as a subcircular embanked enclosure with a diameter of approximately 15 metres, already bisected by the road that had come to divide it. At that scale, 15 metres is a modest enclosure, suggesting this was a relatively small domestic site rather than anything of high status. A field boundary further complicates the picture at the southern end, crossing what would once have been the continuous line of the bank. Between the road and this field boundary, the original form of the rath has been whittled down to a single surviving arc on the western verge, sitting in undulating pasture on a low rise.
