This circular earthwork, known locally as a rath, measures approximately 22.65 metres east to west and 21.8 metres north to south internally; its almost perfect circular form typical of these ancient Irish defensive settlements. The earthen bank that defines the site rises up to 1.1 metres in height and incorporates some stone construction, whilst a 1.3 metre gap on the southwestern side likely marks the original entrance used by its inhabitants centuries ago.

Today, the interior of the ringfort has been reclaimed by nature, with overgrowth obscuring what would once have been a bustling domestic space. These ringforts, which number in the thousands across Ireland, were primarily built between the early medieval period and the 12th century, serving as protected farmsteads for prosperous families. The circular bank would have originally supported a wooden palisade, creating a secure enclosure for houses, livestock, and storage buildings.

The Drumcoe ringfort was documented as part of the comprehensive Archaeological Survey of County Donegal, compiled by Brian Lacey and his team in 1983. This extensive survey catalogued field antiquities throughout the county, spanning from the Mesolithic period through to the 17th century, providing invaluable records of sites that might otherwise be forgotten or lost to development. The ringfort's survival into the 21st century offers a tangible connection to Ireland's rural past, when these fortified homesteads dotted the landscape as centres of agricultural and social life.
