This one offers nothing at all. At Lisnagoneeny in north County Kerry, a ringfort that once stood as part of a cluster of at least three such enclosures has been so thoroughly levelled that no surface trace of it remains. The ground gives no sign that anything was ever there.

A ringfort, or rath, is an enclosed farmstead typical of early medieval Ireland, usually defined by one or more circular banks and ditches and associated with a single family or household. They are common across the Irish countryside, and Lisnagoneeny appears to have had several in close proximity, which is itself of some interest. This particular example, situated immediately south of its two neighbours, was recorded on the Ordnance Survey maps of 1841 to 1842 as a circular enclosure, clear enough to be mapped with confidence. By the time the surveyors returned for the 1915 to 1916 edition, it was already less well defined, suggesting that agricultural clearance or land improvement had been steadily eating away at it across the intervening decades. At some point after that second mapping, whatever remained above ground disappeared entirely. C. Toal documented the site in the North Kerry Archaeological Survey, published in 1995, by which point there was already nothing left to see.

What makes the site worth noting is precisely its absence. The Ordnance Survey maps, taken together, form an inadvertent record of erasure, showing a monument in the process of being lost across two generations of farming. The landscape at Lisnagoneeny now holds the memory of three ringforts, two of which survive in some form, and one that exists only in cartographic evidence.
