Four or five prehistoric slabs lie prostrate in flat coastal pasture at the north-western foot of Miskish Mountain, on the Beara Peninsula, tracing the outline of a circle roughly 8.5 metres across. What keeps the site from being merely a puzzle of fallen stones is a pair of standing orthostats, upright portal stones that once marked a deliberate entrance into the monument. That detail, two stones placed 1.3 metres apart to frame an approach, is what separates a ruined ring from something that still communicates intention.

The two remaining erect stones differ slightly in scale. The western stone stands 2.1 metres high and measures 1.1 metres by 0.45 metres at its face; its companion reaches 1.7 metres and is marginally wider at 1.3 metres across. Together they indicate a monument that was carefully proportioned rather than casually assembled. Stone circles of this multiple-stone type are characteristic of the prehistoric archaeology of south-west Cork and Kerry, and the Beara Peninsula holds several examples, many of them similarly reduced by time and agricultural use to a mixture of standing and fallen elements. The site was catalogued by Seán Ó Nualláin in 1984 as part of a broader survey of Cork's prehistoric ceremonial landscape.

The circle sits in working pasture close to the coast, approximately 400 metres from the sea on the northern side of Beara. The proximity of Miskish Mountain and the relatively open, low-lying ground around it means the two upright stones are not difficult to spot once you are in the right field, though as with most unenclosed archaeological sites in this part of Cork, the surrounding farmland should be treated with the usual courtesy.
