The 1911 Census recorded 80 people named Allely in Ireland; roughly one in every 55,000 people carried the name. The name was split fairly evenly between men and women: 41 men and 39 women.

The Allelys were heavily concentrated in Antrim, home to 55% of them (44 people). Next came Down (17), Monaghan (8), Donegal (7) and Dublin (2).

The average Allely in 1911 was 29.9 years old, 28.0 for men and 31.8 for women; almost exactly in line with the national averages of 29.6 for men and 30.5 for women. That low figure reflects just how many children there were in Edwardian Ireland, along with high infant mortality and the limits of public health at the time. For comparison, average life expectancy in Ireland today is around 83.
Allely literacy in 1911
Of the Allelys whose literacy was recorded, 86.2% could both read and write, 5% could read but not write, and 8.8% could do neither. Women came out slightly ahead, 92.3% reading and writing against 80.5% of men. Bear in mind these figures include young children; the census itself only counted people aged nine and over when calculating illiteracy, on the grounds that it was unfair to label a child illiterate before they'd had a chance to learn.

The most common male names were Joseph (4), John, Samuel, Thomas and David. For women it was Maggie (3), followed by Annie, Ellen, Margaret and Agnes.
Allely occupations in 1911
The most common entry on an Allely's census form was "Scholar"; 13.8% (11) were children at school. Among the rest, the most common occupations were textile worker (10%), general labourer (7.5%), railway / tram worker (6.2%) and shoemaker (5%). Grouped by sector, textiles & clothing accounted for 16.2% of all Allelys, followed by domestic service, general labourers and transport.
What religion is Allely?
Most Allelys, 65%, were Anglican. The remainder were mostly Presbyterian (28.7%) and Methodist (6.2%).
