Women came out slightly ahead, 91.4% reading and writing against 85.3% of men. Bear in mind these figures include young children; the census itself only counted people aged nine and over when calculating illiteracy, on the grounds that it was unfair to label a child illiterate before they'd had a chance to learn.

The most common male names were James (3), John, Robert, Samuel and George. For women it was Annie (4), followed by Isabella, Jane, Lizzie and Alice.

The most common entry on an Aughey's census form was "Scholar"; 17.1% (12) were children at school. Among the rest, the most common occupations were textile worker (15.7%), general labourer (8.6%), farm labourer (4.3%) and farmer (2.9%). Grouped by sector, textiles & clothing accounted for 15.7% of all Augheys, followed by agriculture, general labourers and manufacturing & trades.
What religion is Aughey?
The largest religious group among Augheys was Roman Catholic, at 48.6%. The remainder were mostly Anglican (47.1%) and Presbyterian (4.3%).
