Dublin was Bacon country: 32.8% of them (80 people) lived there in 1911. Next came Derry (52), Antrim (36), Kildare (17) and Cork (16).

The average Bacon in 1911 was 26.2 years old, 23.7 for men and 28.7 for women; noticeably younger than the national averages of 29.6 for men and 30.5 for women. That low figure reflects just how many children there were in Edwardian Ireland, along with high infant mortality and the limits of public health at the time. For comparison, average life expectancy in Ireland today is around 83.
Bacon literacy in 1911
Of the Bacons whose literacy was recorded, 79.6% could both read and write, 2.6% could read but not write, and 17.8% could do neither. Women came out slightly ahead, 82.6% reading and writing against 76.5% of men. Bear in mind these figures include young children; the census itself only counted people aged nine and over when calculating illiteracy, on the grounds that it was unfair to label a child illiterate before they'd had a chance to learn.

The most common male names were John (18), James, William, Michael and Joseph. For women it was Mary (11), followed by Margaret, Catherine, Martha and Elizabeth.
Bacon occupations in 1911
The most common entry on a Bacon's census form was "Scholar"; 19.7% (48) were children at school. Among the rest, the most common occupations were domestic servant (5.3%), mason / bricklayer (4.1%), shopkeeper / shop assistant / dealer (3.3%) and fisherman (2.9%). Grouped by sector, building & construction accounted for 6.1% of all Bacons, followed by domestic service, agriculture and retail & commerce.
What religion is Bacon?
Most Bacons, 51.2%, were Roman Catholic. The remainder were mostly Anglican (34%), Presbyterian (8.6%), Methodist (2%) and Salvation Army (0.4%).
