The Beechers were heavily concentrated in Cork, home to 64.4% of them (65 people). Next came Waterford (28), Dublin (3), Limerick (3) and Kildare (2).

The average Beecher in 1911 was 25.8 years old, 24.7 for men and 27.1 for women; noticeably younger than the national averages of 29.6 for men and 30.5 for women. That low figure reflects just how many children there were in Edwardian Ireland, along with high infant mortality and the limits of public health at the time. For comparison, average life expectancy in Ireland today is around 83.
Beecher literacy in 1911
Of the Beechers whose literacy was recorded, 76.8% could both read and write, 2% could read but not write, and 21.2% could do neither. Women came out slightly ahead, 81.8% reading and writing against 72.7% of men. Bear in mind these figures include young children; the census itself only counted people aged nine and over when calculating illiteracy, on the grounds that it was unfair to label a child illiterate before they'd had a chance to learn.
Beecher common first names
The most common male names were John (8), Patrick, Michael, James and Thomas; the same five names that topped the list nationally. For women it was Ellen (6), followed by Mary, Bridget, Catherine and Hannah.
Beecher occupations in 1911
The most common entry on a Beecher's census form was "Scholar"; 24.8% (25) were children at school. Among the rest, the most common occupations were farmer (15.8%), farm labourer (6.9%), general labourer (4%) and shopkeeper / shop assistant / dealer (4%). Grouped by sector, agriculture accounted for 22.8% of all Beechers, followed by general labourers, retail & commerce and public service & defence.
What religion is Beecher?
Beechers were predominantly Roman Catholic (87.1%). The remainder were mostly Anglican (12.9%).
