Bear in mind these figures include young children; the census itself only counted people aged nine and over when calculating illiteracy, on the grounds that it was unfair to label a child illiterate before they'd had a chance to learn.

Grouped by sector, agriculture accounted for 13.3% of all Bettses, followed by domestic service, metal & engineering and manufacturing & trades.

The largest religious group among Bettses was Roman Catholic, at 43.4%. The remainder were mostly Anglican (41%), Congregationalist (8.4%) and Methodist (6%).
