Of the Bibbys whose literacy was recorded, 80% could both read and write, 0% could read but not write, and 20% could do neither. The figures were much the same for men and women. Bear in mind these figures include young children; the census itself only counted people aged nine and over when calculating illiteracy, on the grounds that it was unfair to label a child illiterate before they'd had a chance to learn.

Among the rest, the most common occupations were shopkeeper / shop assistant / dealer (4.4%), clerk / office worker (2.9%), farm labourer (2.9%) and general labourer (2.9%). Grouped by sector, retail & commerce accounted for 5.9% of all Bibbys, followed by manufacturing & trades, transport and agriculture.
What religion is Bibby?
Most Bibbys, 66.2%, were Anglican. The remainder were mostly Roman Catholic (23.5%), Plymouth Brethren (8.8%) and Unitarian (1.5%).
