The 1911 Census recorded 65 people named Biggart in Ireland; roughly one in every 68,000 people carried the name. The name was split fairly evenly between men and women: 34 men and 31 women.

The Biggarts were heavily concentrated in Antrim, home to 69.2% of them (45 people). Next came Derry (8), Down (5), Armagh (4) and Dublin (3).

That low figure reflects just how many children there were in Edwardian Ireland, along with high infant mortality and the limits of public health at the time. Biggart literacy in 1911
Of the Biggarts whose literacy was recorded, 79.4% could both read and write, 0% could read but not write, and 20.6% could do neither. Women came out slightly ahead, 83.3% reading and writing against 75.8% of men. Bear in mind these figures include young children; the census itself only counted people aged nine and over when calculating illiteracy, on the grounds that it was unfair to label a child illiterate before they'd had a chance to learn.

The most common male names were John (9), Robert, James, William and Hugh. For women it was Jane (5), followed by Martha, Mary, Matilda and Annie.

The most common entry on a Biggart's census form was "Scholar"; 30.8% (20) were children at school. Among the rest, the most common occupations were general labourer (10.8%), farmer (7.7%), farm labourer (4.6%) and teacher (4.6%). Grouped by sector, agriculture accounted for 12.3% of all Biggarts, followed by general labourers, professional and retail & commerce.
What religion is Biggart?
Most Biggarts, 64.6%, were Presbyterian. The remainder were mostly Anglican (18.5%) and Roman Catholic (3.1%).
