Of the Blanches whose literacy was recorded, 84.5% could both read and write, 1.4% could read but not write, and 14.1% could do neither. Women came out slightly ahead, 89.7% reading and writing against 78.1% of men. Bear in mind these figures include young children; the census itself only counted people aged nine and over when calculating illiteracy, on the grounds that it was unfair to label a child illiterate before they'd had a chance to learn.

The most common male names were Edward (5), James, John, Patrick and Thomas. For women it was Mary (11), followed by Ellen, Kate, Margaret and Bridget.

The most common entry on a Blanche's census form was "Scholar"; 16.7% (12) were children at school. Among the rest, the most common occupations were farmer (13.9%), domestic servant (9.7%), general labourer (5.6%) and carpenter / joiner (4.2%). Grouped by sector, agriculture accounted for 19.4% of all Blanches, followed by domestic service, general labourers and building & construction.

Blanches were overwhelmingly Roman Catholic, 98.6% of them. The remainder were mostly Anglican (1.4%).
