Of the Boggses whose literacy was recorded, 81.6% could both read and write, 3.2% could read but not write, and 15.3% could do neither. The figures were much the same for men and women. Bear in mind these figures include young children; the census itself only counted people aged nine and over when calculating illiteracy, on the grounds that it was unfair to label a child illiterate before they'd had a chance to learn.

The most common male names were John (14), William, James, Robert and Samuel. For women it was Mary Jane (6), followed by Maggie, Rebecca, Annie and Annie M.

The most common entry on a Boggs's census form was "Scholar"; 28.5% (55) were children at school. Among the rest, the most common occupations were farmer (15.5%), shopkeeper / shop assistant / dealer (6.7%), farm labourer (3.6%) and teacher (2.1%). Grouped by sector, agriculture accounted for 19.7% of all Boggses, followed by retail & commerce, domestic service and professional.
What religion is Boggs?
Boggses were predominantly Presbyterian (70.5%). The remainder were mostly Anglican (19.7%), Baptist (4.1%) and Roman Catholic (1.6%).
