The Boners were heavily concentrated in Donegal, home to 96.8% of them (604 people). Next came Tyrone (9), Antrim (7) and Derry (4).

That low figure reflects just how many children there were in Edwardian Ireland, along with high infant mortality and the limits of public health at the time. Men came out slightly ahead, 53.9% reading and writing against 46.7% of women. Bear in mind these figures include young children; the census itself only counted people aged nine and over when calculating illiteracy, on the grounds that it was unfair to label a child illiterate before they'd had a chance to learn.

The most common male names were John (57), James, Patrick, Michael and Charles. For women it was Mary (51), followed by Bridget, Annie, Rose and Maggie.

The most common occupation among Boners was farmer, 26.1% of them (163 people). Next came scholar / student (20.7%), knitter / lace worker (4.3%), farm labourer (3.8%) and domestic servant (2.6%). Grouped by sector, agriculture accounted for 30.1% of all Boners, followed by textiles & clothing, domestic service and general labourers.
What religion is Boner?
Boners were overwhelmingly Roman Catholic, 97.3% of them. The remainder were mostly Anglican (1.6%), Methodist (0.6%) and Presbyterian (0.5%).
