Of the Boneses whose literacy was recorded, 69.2% could both read and write, 6.8% could read but not write, and 24% could do neither. Women came out slightly ahead, 72.3% reading and writing against 66.2% of men. Bear in mind these figures include young children; the census itself only counted people aged nine and over when calculating illiteracy, on the grounds that it was unfair to label a child illiterate before they'd had a chance to learn.

The most common male names were John (22), Michael, Patrick, Thomas and William. For women it was Mary (17), followed by Bridget, Margaret, Sarah and Annie.

The most common entry on a Bones's census form was "Scholar"; 23.7% (64) were children at school. Among the rest, the most common occupations were farmer (21.1%), farm labourer (7.8%), domestic servant (3%) and retired / pensioner (1.5%). Grouped by sector, agriculture accounted for 28.9% of all Boneses, followed by domestic service, textiles & clothing and retired & pensioners.
What religion is Bones?
Boneses were predominantly Roman Catholic (76.3%). The remainder were mostly Presbyterian (18.9%), Anglican (3.7%) and Congregationalist (1.1%).
