Of the Bookeys whose literacy was recorded, 92.7% could both read and write, 0% could read but not write, and 7.3% could do neither. Women came out slightly ahead, 95.5% reading and writing against 90.9% of men. Bear in mind these figures include young children; the census itself only counted people aged nine and over when calculating illiteracy, on the grounds that it was unfair to label a child illiterate before they'd had a chance to learn.

The most common male names were Edward (5), John, Thomas, Patrick and William. For women it was Mary (5), followed by Annie, Bridget, Elizabeth and Adelina.

The most common entry on a Bookey's census form was "Scholar"; 26.8% (15) were children at school. Among the rest, the most common occupations were shopkeeper / shop assistant / dealer (8.9%), general labourer (5.4%), carpenter / joiner (3.6%) and farm labourer (3.6%). Grouped by sector, retail & commerce accounted for 10.7% of all Bookeys, followed by agriculture, general labourers and building & construction.
What religion is Bookey?
Most Bookeys, 69.6%, were Roman Catholic. The remainder were mostly Anglican (30.4%).
