Bear in mind these figures include young children; the census itself only counted people aged nine and over when calculating illiteracy, on the grounds that it was unfair to label a child illiterate before they'd had a chance to learn.

Grouped by sector, agriculture accounted for 13.7% of all Brownriggs, followed by professional, retail & commerce and domestic service.

Most Brownriggs, 60%, were Anglican. The remainder were mostly Roman Catholic (26.3%), Non-Conformist (9.5%), Methodist (2.1%) and Protestant (2.1%).
