The average Brunt in 1911 was 36.5 years old, 32.4 for men and 42.3 for women; noticeably older than the national averages of 29.6 for men and 30.5 for women. That low figure reflects just how many children there were in Edwardian Ireland, along with high infant mortality and the limits of public health at the time. For comparison, average life expectancy in Ireland today is around 83.
Brunt literacy in 1911
Of the Brunts whose literacy was recorded, 77.8% could both read and write, 9.3% could read but not write, and 13% could do neither. The figures were much the same for men and women. Bear in mind these figures include young children; the census itself only counted people aged nine and over when calculating illiteracy, on the grounds that it was unfair to label a child illiterate before they'd had a chance to learn.

The most common occupation among Brunts was farmer, 33.3% of them (21 people). Next came scholar / student (17.5%), farm labourer (3.2%), clerk / office worker (1.6%) and domestic servant (1.6%). Grouped by sector, agriculture accounted for 36.5% of all Brunts, followed by clerical & administration and domestic service.

Brunts were predominantly Anglican (88.9%). The remainder were mostly Methodist (3.2%).
