The 1911 Census recorded 89 people named Brush in Ireland; roughly one in every 49,000 people carried the name. The name was split fairly evenly between men and women: 47 men and 42 women.

The Brushes were heavily concentrated in Tyrone, home to 51.7% of them (46 people). Next came Antrim (20), Down (7), Monaghan (7) and Kildare (2).

Next came scholar / student (19.1%), agent / manager (3.4%), carter / driver / groom (3.4%) and general labourer (2.2%). Grouped by sector, agriculture accounted for 21.3% of all Brushes, followed by retail & commerce, transport and general labourers.

Brushes were predominantly Presbyterian (77.5%). The remainder were mostly Anglican (19.1%) and Roman Catholic (3.4%).
