Bear in mind these figures include young children; the census itself only counted people aged nine and over when calculating illiteracy, on the grounds that it was unfair to label a child illiterate before they'd had a chance to learn.

Among the rest, the most common occupations were farmer (12.4%), textile worker (4.1%), general labourer (3.9%) and shopkeeper / shop assistant / dealer (3.4%). Grouped by sector, agriculture accounted for 15.5% of all Brysons, followed by textiles & clothing, general labourers and retail & commerce.

The largest religious group among Brysons was Roman Catholic, at 35.9%. The remainder were mostly Presbyterian (35.7%), Anglican (23.2%), Methodist (4.6%) and Plymouth Brethren (0.3%).
