Men came out slightly ahead, 90.9% reading and writing against 78.9% of women. Bear in mind these figures include young children; the census itself only counted people aged nine and over when calculating illiteracy, on the grounds that it was unfair to label a child illiterate before they'd had a chance to learn.

The most common male names were John (6), Thomas, Richard, William and Austin. For women it was Margaret (5), followed by Mary, Catherine, Eliza and Ellen.

The most common entry on a Busteed's census form was "Scholar"; 19.7% (14) were children at school. Among the rest, the most common occupations were farmer (11.3%), retired / pensioner (5.6%), shopkeeper / shop assistant / dealer (4.2%) and publican / hotel worker (2.8%). Grouped by sector, agriculture accounted for 14.1% of all Busteeds, followed by retail & commerce, retired & pensioners and textiles & clothing.
What religion is Busteed?
Most Busteeds, 62%, were Roman Catholic. The remainder were mostly Anglican (29.6%), Methodist (5.6%) and Plymouth Brethren (2.8%).
