The average Callins in 1911 was 26.9 years old, 25.0 for men and 28.3 for women; noticeably younger than the national averages of 29.6 for men and 30.5 for women. That low figure reflects just how many children there were in Edwardian Ireland, along with high infant mortality and the limits of public health at the time. For comparison, average life expectancy in Ireland today is around 83.

Of the Callinses whose literacy was recorded, 83.9% could both read and write, 0% could read but not write, and 16.1% could do neither. Men came out slightly ahead, 87% reading and writing against 81.8% of women. Bear in mind these figures include young children; the census itself only counted people aged nine and over when calculating illiteracy, on the grounds that it was unfair to label a child illiterate before they'd had a chance to learn.

The most common male names were John (4), Patrick, James, Michael and Robert. For women it was Mary (7), followed by Bridget, Annie, Ellen and Mary Ann.

The most common entry on a Callins's census form was "Scholar"; 21% (13) were children at school. Among the rest, the most common occupations were domestic servant (8.1%), farm labourer (6.5%), shopkeeper / shop assistant / dealer (4.8%) and clergy / religious (3.2%). Grouped by sector, domestic service accounted for 12.9% of all Callinses, followed by agriculture, retail & commerce and professional.

What religion is Callins?

Callinses were overwhelmingly Roman Catholic, 93.5% of them. The remainder were mostly Methodist (3.2%) and Anglican (1.6%).
