The 1911 Census recorded 93 people named Carre in Ireland; roughly one in every 47,000 people carried the name. The name was split fairly evenly between men and women: 43 men and 50 women.

The Carres were heavily concentrated in Donegal, home to 78.5% of them (73 people). Next came Dublin (8), Derry (4), Tyrone (3) and Galway (2).

Carre literacy in 1911
Of the Carres whose literacy was recorded, 66.7% could both read and write, 2.2% could read but not write, and 31.2% could do neither. Women came out slightly ahead, 72% reading and writing against 60.5% of men. Bear in mind these figures include young children; the census itself only counted people aged nine and over when calculating illiteracy, on the grounds that it was unfair to label a child illiterate before they'd had a chance to learn.

The most common male names were John (9), James, Michael, Patrick and Cecil. For women it was Mary (9), followed by Bridget, Ellen, Maggie and Cassie.
Carre occupations in 1911
The most common entry on a Carre's census form was "Scholar"; 20.4% (19) were children at school. Among the rest, the most common occupations were farmer (11.8%), fisherman (4.3%), general labourer (4.3%) and textile worker (4.3%). Grouped by sector, agriculture accounted for 14% of all Carres, followed by textiles & clothing, fishing and general labourers.
What religion is Carre?
Carres were predominantly Roman Catholic (81.7%). The remainder were mostly Anglican (18.3%).
