Carrick literacy in 1911
Of the Carricks whose literacy was recorded, 78.1% could both read and write, 4.8% could read but not write, and 17.1% could do neither. Women came out slightly ahead, 80.3% reading and writing against 76.1% of men. Bear in mind these figures include young children; the census itself only counted people aged nine and over when calculating illiteracy, on the grounds that it was unfair to label a child illiterate before they'd had a chance to learn.

The most common male names were John (21), James, Thomas, William and Patrick. For women it was Mary (22), followed by Margaret, Elizabeth, Bridget and Ellen.

The most common entry on a Carrick's census form was "Scholar"; 22.2% (71) were children at school. Among the rest, the most common occupations were farmer (15%), general labourer (5%), shopkeeper / shop assistant / dealer (3.1%) and farm labourer (2.2%). Grouped by sector, agriculture accounted for 17.2% of all Carricks, followed by general labourers, domestic service and retail & commerce.
What religion is Carrick?
Carricks were predominantly Roman Catholic (73.8%). The remainder were mostly Anglican (14.4%), Presbyterian (8.4%) and Methodist (3.1%).
