Of the Cashells whose literacy was recorded, 75.3% could both read and write, 7.1% could read but not write, and 17.6% could do neither. Men came out slightly ahead, 76.7% reading and writing against 73.8% of women. Bear in mind these figures include young children; the census itself only counted people aged nine and over when calculating illiteracy, on the grounds that it was unfair to label a child illiterate before they'd had a chance to learn.

The most common male names were John (10), William, Francis, Thomas and George. For women it was Mary (10), followed by Hanora, Brigid, Ellen and Mary Ann.

The most common entry on a Cashell's census form was "Scholar"; 26.4% (23) were children at school. Among the rest, the most common occupations were farmer (9.2%), clerk / office worker (5.7%), general labourer (5.7%) and teacher (4.6%). Grouped by sector, agriculture accounted for 11.5% of all Cashells, followed by clerical & administration, general labourers and professional.
What religion is Cashell?
Cashells were predominantly Roman Catholic (85.1%). The remainder were mostly Anglican (14.9%).
