Grouped by sector, textiles & clothing accounted for 11% of all Cathcarts, followed by agriculture, retail & commerce and general labourers.

The largest religious group among Cathcarts was Presbyterian, at 46%. The remainder were mostly Anglican (32.7%), Methodist (12.8%), Roman Catholic (7.2%) and Moravian (0.3%).
