The Cogleys were heavily concentrated in Wexford, home to 93.2% of them (164 people). Next came Carlow (4), Laois (3), Derry (2) and Antrim (1).

Men came out slightly ahead, 80% reading and writing against 71.8% of women. Bear in mind these figures include young children; the census itself only counted people aged nine and over when calculating illiteracy, on the grounds that it was unfair to label a child illiterate before they'd had a chance to learn.

The most common male names were John (21), Thomas, Patrick, James and Michael; the same five names that topped the list nationally. For women it was Mary (14), followed by Bridget, Kate, Margaret and Anne.

The most common occupation among Cogleys was farmer, 19.9% of them (35 people). Next came scholar / student (16.5%), farm labourer (9.7%), general labourer (5.7%) and domestic servant (2.3%). Grouped by sector, agriculture accounted for 31.8% of all Cogleys, followed by general labourers, domestic service and textiles & clothing.
