Colleran literacy in 1911
Of the Collerans whose literacy was recorded, 68.7% could both read and write, 5.8% could read but not write, and 25.4% could do neither. Men came out slightly ahead, 73% reading and writing against 63.3% of women. Bear in mind these figures include young children; the census itself only counted people aged nine and over when calculating illiteracy, on the grounds that it was unfair to label a child illiterate before they'd had a chance to learn.

The most common male names were John (24), Patrick, James, Thomas and Michael; the same five names that topped the list nationally. For women it was Mary (26), followed by Bridget, Margaret, Anne and Ellen.
Colleran occupations in 1911
The most common entry on a Colleran's census form was "Scholar"; 27.5% (82) were children at school. Among the rest, the most common occupations were farmer (26.8%), farm labourer (1.7%), general labourer (1.7%) and blacksmith / smith (1%). Grouped by sector, agriculture accounted for 28.9% of all Collerans, followed by domestic service, general labourers and metal & engineering.
