The 1911 Census recorded 514 people named Conry in Ireland; roughly one in every 8,500 people carried the name. The name was split fairly evenly between men and women: 266 men and 248 women.

The Conrys were heavily concentrated in Roscommon, home to 50% of them (257 people). Next came Mayo (110), Sligo (41), Galway (26) and Clare (23).

The average Conry in 1911 was 30.7 years old, 30.8 for men and 30.7 for women; almost exactly in line with the national averages of 29.6 for men and 30.5 for women. That low figure reflects just how many children there were in Edwardian Ireland, along with high infant mortality and the limits of public health at the time. For comparison, average life expectancy in Ireland today is around 83.

Of the Conrys whose literacy was recorded, 78.5% could both read and write, 4.2% could read but not write, and 17.3% could do neither. Men came out slightly ahead, 79.7% reading and writing against 77.3% of women. Bear in mind these figures include young children; the census itself only counted people aged nine and over when calculating illiteracy, on the grounds that it was unfair to label a child illiterate before they'd had a chance to learn.

The most common male names were Thomas (37), John, Patrick, Martin and Michael. For women it was Mary (41), followed by Bridget, Anne, Catherine and Ellen.

The most common occupation among Conrys was farmer, 24.7% of them (127 people). Next came scholar / student (19.3%), farm labourer (3.9%), general labourer (2.3%) and domestic servant (2.1%). Grouped by sector, agriculture accounted for 30.2% of all Conrys, followed by domestic service, general labourers and retail & commerce.
What religion is Conry?
Conrys were overwhelmingly Roman Catholic, 99.4% of them. The remainder were mostly Salvation Army (0.2%).
