Men came out slightly ahead, 76.1% reading and writing against 71.2% of women. Bear in mind these figures include young children; the census itself only counted people aged nine and over when calculating illiteracy, on the grounds that it was unfair to label a child illiterate before they'd had a chance to learn.

The most common male names were John (13), Thomas, James, William and David. For women it was Mary (7), followed by Margaret, Elizabeth, Isabella and Lizzie.

The most common entry on a Corken's census form was "Scholar"; 27.4% (37) were children at school. Among the rest, the most common occupations were textile worker (8.1%), farmer (4.4%), general labourer (3.7%) and clerk / office worker (3%). Grouped by sector, textiles & clothing accounted for 9.6% of all Corkens, followed by agriculture, general labourers and clerical & administration.
What religion is Corken?
Corkens were predominantly Anglican (83%). The remainder were mostly Presbyterian (9.6%), Roman Catholic (5.9%) and Methodist (1.5%).
