The 1911 Census recorded 220 people named Cormican in Ireland; roughly one in every 20,000 people carried the name. The name was split fairly evenly between men and women: 112 men and 108 women.

The Cormicans were heavily concentrated in Galway, home to 62.7% of them (138 people). Next came Antrim (52), Roscommon (20), Armagh (4) and Mayo (4).

That low figure reflects just how many children there were in Edwardian Ireland, along with high infant mortality and the limits of public health at the time. Of the Cormicans whose literacy was recorded, 79.3% could both read and write, 4.6% could read but not write, and 16.1% could do neither. Women came out slightly ahead, 80.4% reading and writing against 78.2% of men. Bear in mind these figures include young children; the census itself only counted people aged nine and over when calculating illiteracy, on the grounds that it was unfair to label a child illiterate before they'd had a chance to learn.

The most common male names were John (21), Patrick, Thomas, Michael and James; the same five names that topped the list nationally. For women it was Mary (19), followed by Bridget, Annie, Margaret and Ellen; matching the national top five exactly.

The most common occupation among Cormicans was farmer, 27.7% of them (61 people). Next came scholar / student (14.1%), general labourer (4.1%), textile worker (3.2%) and shopkeeper / shop assistant / dealer (2.7%). Grouped by sector, agriculture accounted for 31.4% of all Cormicans, followed by textiles & clothing, general labourers and retail & commerce.
What religion is Cormican?
Cormicans were overwhelmingly Roman Catholic, 97.7% of them. The remainder were mostly Presbyterian (1.4%) and Anglican (0.9%).
