Women came out slightly ahead, 82.6% reading and writing against 77.5% of men. Bear in mind these figures include young children; the census itself only counted people aged nine and over when calculating illiteracy, on the grounds that it was unfair to label a child illiterate before they'd had a chance to learn.

The most common entry on a Cornally's census form was "Scholar"; 21.5% (14) were children at school. Among the rest, the most common occupations were farm labourer (13.8%), domestic servant (9.2%), general labourer (7.7%) and railway / tram worker (6.2%). Grouped by sector, agriculture accounted for 18.5% of all Cornallys, followed by domestic service, general labourers and transport.
