The 1911 Census recorded 202 people named Creaven in Ireland; roughly one in every 22,000 people carried the name. The name was split fairly evenly between men and women: 92 men and 110 women.

The Creavens were heavily concentrated in Galway, home to 86.6% of them (175 people). Next came Roscommon (23), Kilkenny (2), Dublin (1) and Mayo (1).

That low figure reflects just how many children there were in Edwardian Ireland, along with high infant mortality and the limits of public health at the time. Creaven literacy in 1911
Of the Creavens whose literacy was recorded, 67.8% could both read and write, 7% could read but not write, and 25.1% could do neither. Women came out slightly ahead, 70% reading and writing against 65.2% of men. Bear in mind these figures include young children; the census itself only counted people aged nine and over when calculating illiteracy, on the grounds that it was unfair to label a child illiterate before they'd had a chance to learn.

The most common male names were Michael (15), John, Thomas, Patrick and Martin. For women it was Mary (21), followed by Bridget, Margaret, Annie and Delia.

The most common occupation among Creavens was farmer, 22.3% of them (45 people). Next came scholar / student (21.8%), farm labourer (4.5%), herd / dairy worker (4.5%) and dressmaker / milliner (1%). Grouped by sector, agriculture accounted for 31.2% of all Creavens, followed by textiles & clothing, general labourers and retail & commerce.
What religion is Creaven?
Creavens were overwhelmingly Roman Catholic, 99% of them. The remainder were mostly Anglican (1%).
