Crow in 1911 Ireland
The 1911 Census recorded 68 people named Crow in Ireland; roughly one in every 65,000 people carried the name. The name was split fairly evenly between men and women: 34 men and 33 women. (A small number, 1, had no sex recorded.)

Antrim had the largest share of Crows, 23.5% (16 people). Next came Down (10), Armagh (7), Limerick (6) and Cavan (5).

The average Crow in 1911 was 29.3 years old, 25.1 for men and 33.5 for women; almost exactly in line with the national averages of 29.6 for men and 30.5 for women. That low figure reflects just how many children there were in Edwardian Ireland, along with high infant mortality and the limits of public health at the time. For comparison, average life expectancy in Ireland today is around 83.
Crow literacy in 1911
Of the Crows whose literacy was recorded, 74.2% could both read and write, 12.1% could read but not write, and 13.6% could do neither. Men came out slightly ahead, 78.8% reading and writing against 69.7% of women. Bear in mind these figures include young children; the census itself only counted people aged nine and over when calculating illiteracy, on the grounds that it was unfair to label a child illiterate before they'd had a chance to learn.
Crow common first names
The most common male names were John (4), Thomas, Robert, Alfred William and James. For women it was Mary (4), followed by Anne, Annie, Kate and Margaret.
Crow occupations in 1911
The most common entry on a Crow's census form was "Scholar"; 17.6% (12) were children at school. Among the rest, the most common occupations were general labourer (7.4%), farmer (5.9%), domestic servant (4.4%) and farm labourer (4.4%). Grouped by sector, agriculture accounted for 10.3% of all Crows, followed by general labourers, domestic service and metal & engineering.
What religion is Crow?
The largest religious group among Crows was Roman Catholic, at 33.8%. The remainder were mostly Anglican (32.4%), Presbyterian (29.4%) and Methodist (2.9%).
