Men came out slightly ahead, 79.7% reading and writing against 66.2% of women. Bear in mind these figures include young children; the census itself only counted people aged nine and over when calculating illiteracy, on the grounds that it was unfair to label a child illiterate before they'd had a chance to learn.

The most common male names were James (24), John, William, Thomas and Joseph. For women it was Mary (18), followed by Jane, Elizabeth, Margaret and Sarah.

The most common entry on a Culbert's census form was "Scholar"; 18.4% (58) were children at school. Among the rest, the most common occupations were textile worker (7%), general labourer (5.7%), farmer (5.4%) and shopkeeper / shop assistant / dealer (5.4%). Grouped by sector, textiles & clothing accounted for 9.8% of all Culberts, followed by agriculture, general labourers and retail & commerce.
What religion is Culbert?
The largest religious group among Culberts was Anglican, at 43.2%. The remainder were mostly Roman Catholic (24.4%), Presbyterian (23.5%) and Methodist (6.3%).
