Of the Culletons whose literacy was recorded, 72.3% could both read and write, 3.6% could read but not write, and 24% could do neither. Women came out slightly ahead, 75.6% reading and writing against 69.6% of men. Bear in mind these figures include young children; the census itself only counted people aged nine and over when calculating illiteracy, on the grounds that it was unfair to label a child illiterate before they'd had a chance to learn.

Among the rest, the most common occupations were farmer (15.6%), farm labourer (7.7%), general labourer (7.3%) and domestic servant (3.7%). Grouped by sector, agriculture accounted for 23.7% of all Culletons, followed by general labourers, domestic service and retail & commerce.

Culletons were overwhelmingly Roman Catholic, 97.5% of them. The remainder were mostly Anglican (1.9%) and Methodist (0.2%).
