Bear in mind these figures include young children; the census itself only counted people aged nine and over when calculating illiteracy, on the grounds that it was unfair to label a child illiterate before they'd had a chance to learn.

The most common male names were John (13), Michael, Patrick, Thomas and James; the same five names that topped the list nationally. For women it was Mary (12), followed by Bridget, Catherine, Agnes and Ellen.

The most common entry on a Daffy's census form was "Scholar"; 25% (28) were children at school. Among the rest, the most common occupations were farmer (11.6%), farm labourer (5.4%), domestic servant (4.5%) and blacksmith / smith (3.6%). Grouped by sector, agriculture accounted for 17% of all Daffys, followed by domestic service, metal & engineering and textiles & clothing.
