Grouped by sector, textiles & clothing accounted for 12% of all Dalzells, followed by agriculture, metal & engineering and retail & commerce.

Most Dalzells, 58.7%, were Presbyterian. The remainder were mostly Anglican (31.9%), Roman Catholic (4.5%), Methodist (1.7%) and Baptist (1.5%).
