Women came out slightly ahead, 96.3% reading and writing against 92.3% of men. Bear in mind these figures include young children; the census itself only counted people aged nine and over when calculating illiteracy, on the grounds that it was unfair to label a child illiterate before they'd had a chance to learn.

The most common male names were John (5), Patrick, James, Michael and Thomas; the same five names that topped the list nationally. For women it was Ellen (3), followed by Mary, Hannora, Katie and Annie.

The most common entry on a Daniell's census form was "Scholar"; 22.6% (12) were children at school. Among the rest, the most common occupations were farmer (20.8%), general labourer (15.1%), agent / manager (1.9%) and carter / driver / groom (1.9%). Grouped by sector, agriculture accounted for 22.6% of all Daniells, followed by general labourers, domestic service and retail & commerce.

Daniells were predominantly Roman Catholic (75.5%). The remainder were mostly Anglican (24.5%).
