Dardis literacy in 1911
Of the Dardises whose literacy was recorded, 83.9% could both read and write, 2.8% could read but not write, and 13.3% could do neither. Women came out slightly ahead, 85.3% reading and writing against 82.4% of men. Bear in mind these figures include young children; the census itself only counted people aged nine and over when calculating illiteracy, on the grounds that it was unfair to label a child illiterate before they'd had a chance to learn.

The most common male names were John (14), Patrick, James, Michael and Thomas; the same five names that topped the list nationally. For women it was Mary (20), followed by Bridget, Rose, Anne and Catherine.

The most common entry on a Dardis's census form was "Scholar"; 12.7% (28) were children at school. Among the rest, the most common occupations were farmer (10.9%), general labourer (7.7%), farm labourer (4.1%) and domestic servant (3.6%). Grouped by sector, agriculture accounted for 16.8% of all Dardises, followed by general labourers, domestic service and professional.
