Bear in mind these figures include young children; the census itself only counted people aged nine and over when calculating illiteracy, on the grounds that it was unfair to label a child illiterate before they'd had a chance to learn.

The most common entry on a Dempsy's census form was "Scholar"; 16.6% (32) were children at school. Among the rest, the most common occupations were general labourer (10.9%), farm labourer (8.8%), domestic servant (6.7%) and farmer (6.2%). Grouped by sector, agriculture accounted for 16.1% of all Dempsys, followed by general labourers, domestic service and textiles & clothing.
What religion is Dempsy?
Dempsys were overwhelmingly Roman Catholic, 93.8% of them. The remainder were mostly Anglican (4.7%).
