Of the Dents whose literacy was recorded, 85.2% could both read and write, 1.6% could read but not write, and 13.1% could do neither. Men came out slightly ahead, 89.3% reading and writing against 81.8% of women. Bear in mind these figures include young children; the census itself only counted people aged nine and over when calculating illiteracy, on the grounds that it was unfair to label a child illiterate before they'd had a chance to learn.

The most common male names were John (7), Patrick, William, Andrew and Christopher. For women it was Annie (5), followed by Margaret, Mary, Catherine and Elizabeth.
Dent occupations in 1911
The most common entry on a Dent's census form was "Scholar"; 31.9% (23) were children at school. Among the rest, the most common occupations were general labourer (9.7%), fisherman (4.2%), sailor / dock worker (4.2%) and carter / driver / groom (2.8%). Grouped by sector, general labourers accounted for 9.7% of all Dents, followed by transport, domestic service and fishing.
What religion is Dent?
Dents were predominantly Roman Catholic (83.3%). The remainder were mostly Anglican (12.5%) and Congregationalist (1.4%).
