Bear in mind these figures include young children; the census itself only counted people aged nine and over when calculating illiteracy, on the grounds that it was unfair to label a child illiterate before they'd had a chance to learn.

Grouped by sector, manufacturing & trades accounted for 6.6% of all Diffins, followed by agriculture, building & construction and retail & commerce.

The largest religious group among Diffins was Anglican, at 36.1%. The remainder were mostly Presbyterian (34.4%), Roman Catholic (19.7%) and Methodist (9.8%).
