Digney literacy in 1911
Of the Digneys whose literacy was recorded, 51.8% could both read and write, 12.5% could read but not write, and 35.7% could do neither. Men came out slightly ahead, 57.7% reading and writing against 46.7% of women. Bear in mind these figures include young children; the census itself only counted people aged nine and over when calculating illiteracy, on the grounds that it was unfair to label a child illiterate before they'd had a chance to learn.

Among the rest, the most common occupations were farmer (16.1%), general labourer (10.7%), seamstress (3.6%) and builder / contractor (1.8%). Grouped by sector, agriculture accounted for 16.1% of all Digneys, followed by general labourers, textiles & clothing and building & construction.
What religion is Digney?
Digneys were overwhelmingly Roman Catholic, 98.2% of them. The remainder were mostly Presbyterian (1.8%).
