Grouped by sector, agriculture accounted for 21.5% of all Donegans, followed by general labourers, domestic service and textiles & clothing.

Donegans were overwhelmingly Roman Catholic, 96.2% of them. The remainder were mostly Anglican (2.6%), Presbyterian (0.3%) and Methodist (0.2%).
