The Doonas were heavily concentrated in Kerry, home to 98.1% of them (102 people). Next came Cork (1) and Wicklow (1).

The average Doona in 1911 was 27.4 years old, 25.6 for men and 29.8 for women; a touch younger than the national averages of 29.6 for men and 30.5 for women. That low figure reflects just how many children there were in Edwardian Ireland, along with high infant mortality and the limits of public health at the time. For comparison, average life expectancy in Ireland today is around 83.
Doona literacy in 1911
Of the Doonas whose literacy was recorded, 62.5% could both read and write, 5.8% could read but not write, and 31.7% could do neither. The figures were much the same for men and women. Bear in mind these figures include young children; the census itself only counted people aged nine and over when calculating illiteracy, on the grounds that it was unfair to label a child illiterate before they'd had a chance to learn.

The most common male names were James (11), John, Michael, Daniel and Timothy. For women it was Bridget (8), followed by Ellen, Julia, Hannah and Johanna.
Doona occupations in 1911
The most common entry on a Doona's census form was "Scholar"; 24% (25) were children at school. Among the rest, the most common occupations were farmer (17.3%), blacksmith / smith (4.8%), housekeeper (3.8%) and farm labourer (2.9%). Grouped by sector, agriculture accounted for 20.2% of all Doonas, followed by domestic service, metal & engineering and general labourers.
