The 1911 Census recorded 573 people named Dorrian in Ireland; roughly one in every 7,700 people carried the name. The name was split fairly evenly between men and women: 293 men and 280 women.

The Dorrians were heavily concentrated in Donegal, home to 51.7% of them (296 people). Next came Down (202), Antrim (47), Tyrone (11) and Derry (10).

Men came out slightly ahead, 78.2% reading and writing against 71.2% of women. Bear in mind these figures include young children; the census itself only counted people aged nine and over when calculating illiteracy, on the grounds that it was unfair to label a child illiterate before they'd had a chance to learn.

The most common male names were John (47), James, Patrick, Hugh and William. For women it was Mary (32), followed by Bridget, Maggie, Sarah and Annie.

The most common entry on a Dorrian's census form was "Scholar"; 20.4% (117) were children at school. Among the rest, the most common occupations were farmer (18.7%), textile worker (5.2%), farm labourer (4.9%) and seamstress (4.2%). Grouped by sector, agriculture accounted for 23.7% of all Dorrians, followed by textiles & clothing, general labourers and domestic service.

Dorrians were predominantly Roman Catholic (85.9%). The remainder were mostly Anglican (7.7%), Presbyterian (4.2%), Plymouth Brethren (0.9%) and Congregationalist (0.2%).
